New Year’s Goals Fading?

What do you see on your daily walks? Photo by Lee E. Kellogg

Has reality hit? The resolutions you set up fallen by the way side or it feels like they are?

I have one that I am working hard one: increasing my daily steps/milage. When my dog Harvey was alive it was super easy to clock 7 miles a day. I have noticed that my daily averages have been decreasing and suddenly the waist line was increasing. My goal is to get back to 7 - 8 miles daily. Yes, some days that is hard others, it’s easy. One tip I learned is if you do a ten minute walk after a meal it will help regulate your blood glucose levels. The quads, your large leg muscles use a lot of energy to move, that sucks some of the blood sugar out and helps things stay level. That ten minute walk is a quarter to a half mile!

All of that said, give yourself grace and work on small things. I spoke about dealing with all my stuff I have moved and still have in boxes. Slowly I am purging it. Making small daily decisions. If I tackled it all at once I would be overwhelmed and shut down. Too much too fast. Hence, a little bit a day or a little bit a week. And after a while, it’s all dealt with!

While I say give yourself grace, don’t use that as an excuse to not do the work. Do things, even small things that facilitate your creative process. Or maybe you need to go rogue and play outside your normal sandbox. That can be very stimulating and inspiring. Do what you need to do in order to reach your creative and health goals.

I have other goals that I am working on in small steps. Maybe 2 a month. Do you have some large goal that is overwhelming you? Can you break it down into 2  month? Two works outs, two walks, two what ever it is? Do two this month, three next month. Or, if two is hard, do one! Just get going and do it!
