Lee Kellogg

My name is Lee Kellogg and I am an artist. While I love playing with a wide range of media, I am most happy with a fountain pen and watercolors. Armed with these tools I love to record the world around me from the busy urban, man-made environment to the delicate world of nature.

A page from my nature journal. This is from a trip to Florida, recording the birds I saw around the neighborhood I was staying in.

Being a bird watcher from a young age, I have been tuned into nature where ever I am. Nature journaling is recording those observations. I love being outside and creating art. Going on a hike is more than a walk, it’s an experience that needs recording!

Urban sketching and the recording of the our constructed world is also a pleasure. Sometimes some of the most remarkable things are hidden right in front of us so we don’t see them. That is the challenge: to take everyday buildings or scenes and make them remarkable. Or even wonky.

Wonky houses and buildings are my love of urban sketching. People move too fast, but buildings sit still for me to observe and draw. Creating a world that I see on paper is my delight.

One of the key elements in taking the time to make a drawing outside, be it of nature or buildings, is that you get to observe the world around you and what is going on. From my sketches that I made years ago, I can tell what was happening around me, who was there, and the weather based on the drawing. I was immersed in the moment, by drawing, I also recorded more than shows up on the paper.  The details stay in the brain.

One of my loves is teaching creativity to others. From drawing, watercolors, mixed media, collage to art journaling and nature journaling, it is a pleasure to share the amazing world that creativity unleashes.

I hope you enjoy my work, the pleasure that it brings and perhaps I will see you in a class or workshop one day.
